The gate at M.B. Miller County Pier doesn't look any different in September than it does in July. Same weathered pilings, same 1,500-foot walk out over the Gulf, same steady stream of anglers hauling coolers past the ticket kiosk. September brings a different rhythm to the pier, alongside the town's fall events.
Bay County residents can now apply for a free five-year parking permit at the pier through the county's Passport Customer Portal, tied to their vehicle tag. Everyone else still pays $2 an hour, $12 for the day, or $80 for an annual pass. That fee structure has existed for a while. By July the lot fills with rental cars and out-of-state plates paying by the hour. By late September, the summer traffic has eased.

One Pier, Two Announcements
The pier is also where the town's live music calendar just did something it hadn't done before: it ran out of room on one schedule.
Bay County's Concerts in the Park series has been touring county parks all year, from Under the Oaks in Parker to Zollie Young Park on 43rd Street. The county's own event calendar lists the season's final stop for September 19 at M.B. Miller County Pier, artist to be announced. But Visit Panama City Beach, working with Bay County Parks & Recreation, rolled out something with its own name and its own headliner for September 18 at the same pier: the inaugural Sunset Sessions, with Florida folk-pop-reggae duo Matt & Zack topping a bill that also includes Corey Hall and String Theory.
In its report on Sunset Sessions, Panama City Beach Life quoted Bay County Commission Chairman Clair Pease:
"We're excited to partner with Visit Panama City Beach for Sunset Sessions and build on the momentum of our Concerts in the Park series. It's the perfect way to cap off a great season of live music in our parks, bringing people together to enjoy great music, a beautiful Gulf sunset, and everything that makes Bay County such a special place."
That puts two separately organized concert programs at the pier as the season winds down.
What's Actually Biting At Lighthouse Marina
King of the Lagoon is another September event on the local fishing calendar. The Gulf Coast Sportfishing Club runs it out of Lighthouse Marina on September 11 and 12, targeting king mackerel, mahi-mahi, and wahoo in the same offshore water that's been quietly producing all summer. It's a tournament focused on fishing in these waters.
